Meet Our Founder, Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey

For more than six decades, Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey has dedicated his life to preserving the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism and helping others cultivate compassion, wisdom and inner peace.

Ordained as a monk at the age of eight, Khenpo has spent his life immersed in Buddhist study, meditation and service. His lifelong commitment to the Dharma has taken him from the great monastic traditions of Tibet and India to teaching students around the world with warmth, humility and unwavering compassion.

As the inspiration behind Tsechen Tara Trust, Khenpo’s vision is simple yet profound: to transform compassion into meaningful action that benefits people from all walks of life.

A Life Dedicated to Compassion

Throughout his life, Khenpo has shared the timeless teachings of Tibetan Buddhism with people of every background, helping countless students discover practical ways to develop calmer minds, kinder hearts and greater resilience.

His teaching style is both authentic and approachable, making profound Buddhist wisdom accessible without losing its depth.

Whether teaching meditation, Buddhist philosophy or Vajrayana practice, his message always returns to the same foundation:

Compassion.

Wisdom.

Kindness.

Preserving the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition

Khenpo is deeply committed to preserving the authentic teachings of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism while ensuring they remain relevant in today’s world.

He believes these ancient teachings are not simply historical traditions but practical tools that can help people navigate the challenges of modern life with greater clarity, patience and compassion.

Through public teachings, meditation retreats and personal guidance, he continues to share this precious lineage with future generations.

The Vision Behind Tsechen Tara Trust

The Tibetan word Tsechen means Great Compassion.

Those two words perfectly reflect Khenpo’s lifelong aspiration.

His vision for Tsechen Tara Trust is to create a charity that not only relieves suffering through practical support but also inspires a more compassionate society.

The Trust aims to support vulnerable people in the United Kingdom, assist communities in Tibet, Nepal and India, promote mental wellbeing through meditation, preserve Tibetan Buddhist wisdom and one day establish a peaceful Buddhist Retreat Village where everyone is welcome to learn, reflect and reconnect.

For Khenpo, compassion is never simply an idea.

It is something we live.

Teaching Beyond the Meditation Hall

Khenpo believes that genuine spiritual practice is measured not only by meditation but by how we treat other people.

Every act of generosity.

Every moment of patience.

Every expression of kindness.

These are the qualities that create lasting change.

His teachings continually encourage students to bring compassion into everyday life, making the world a little kinder through simple actions performed with sincere intention.

An Invitation to Everyone

One of Khenpo’s greatest wishes is that the teachings of compassion should be available to everyone, regardless of background, culture or belief.

Whether someone is taking their first steps into meditation or has spent many years on a spiritual path, they are welcomed with kindness and encouragement.

This inclusive spirit lies at the heart of everything Tsechen Tara Trust hopes to become.

Looking to the Future

The vision for Tsechen Tara Trust is ambitious because the need for compassion has never been greater.

Through charitable projects, meditation, education and community, Khenpo hopes to inspire people to work together in creating a future where kindness becomes part of everyday life.

His lifelong example reminds us that even the smallest act of compassion has the power to change a life.

And that every one of us has the ability to make a difference.
