Why We Created Tsechen Tara Trust

Great Compassion in Action.

Every charity begins with a reason.

Some are created to solve a single problem. Others respond to a moment in time. Ours began with a simple belief that compassion has the power to transform lives.

That belief became Tsechen Tara Trust.

The Tibetan word Tsechen means Great Compassion, while Tara is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as the Mother of all Buddhas and is known for her swift compassionate action to relieve suffering.

Together, these two names express everything we hope to achieve.

Compassion That Becomes Action

Compassion is not simply feeling sympathy for others.

It is recognising suffering and choosing to do something about it.

That is the principle upon which Tsechen Tara Trust has been founded.

Our vision is to transform compassion into practical action that changes lives, supports communities and creates opportunities for people to flourish.

Whether we are helping someone close to home or supporting projects on the other side of the world, our purpose remains the same.

To reduce suffering wherever we can.

Charity Begins at Home

Our first commitment is to support people here in the United Kingdom.

Many people face challenges that often go unseen.

An elderly person choosing between heating and eating.

A child with disabilities missing opportunities that others take for granted.

Someone struggling with loneliness.

Families facing financial hardship.

We want to work alongside care homes, local organisations and community groups to identify where help is needed most and provide practical support that makes a genuine difference.

We believe compassion starts with the people around us.

Looking Beyond Our Borders

While our work begins in the UK, our vision reaches much further.

We hope to support remote communities in Tibet, Nepal and India by helping to fund projects that improve lives for generations.

Our long-term aspirations include supporting:

  • Schools
  • Medical centres
  • Community facilities
  • Infrastructure projects
  • Educational opportunities
  • Humanitarian initiatives

By working with trusted local partners, we hope to create sustainable change rather than short-term solutions.

Supporting Mental Wellbeing

Modern life places enormous pressure on our minds.

Stress, anxiety and loneliness affect millions of people every year.

As a Buddhist charity, we believe meditation offers practical tools that can help people develop greater calm, resilience and compassion.

That is why we intend to offer regular free and affordable meditation sessions, talks and courses that are open to everyone, regardless of their beliefs or previous experience.

We believe inner peace creates stronger communities.

Preserving the Wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism

Tibetan Buddhism has preserved teachings on compassion, wisdom and mindfulness for centuries.

These teachings continue to benefit people from every background.

Through educational events, meditation classes and public talks, we hope to make these timeless teachings more accessible while helping preserve this precious spiritual and cultural heritage for future generations.

Our Dream of a Buddhist Retreat Village

One of our most ambitious long-term goals is to create a Buddhist Retreat Village.

We envision a peaceful sanctuary that includes:

  • A beautiful Buddhist temple
  • Meditation retreat facilities
  • Landscaped gardens
  • A conference and teaching centre
  • A welcoming community café and restaurant
  • Spaces for learning, reflection and friendship

It will be somewhere people can escape the pressures of modern life, reconnect with themselves and discover the benefits of compassion and mindfulness.

Building a Community

More than buildings, we want to build relationships.

We want people to feel that they belong.

Whether someone attends a meditation session, volunteers at an event, enjoys lunch in our café or supports one of our charitable projects, they become part of a growing community united by kindness.

Real change happens when people work together.

Looking to the Future

We know that creating lasting change takes time.

Every project begins with a single step.

Every community begins with one conversation.

Every act of compassion inspires another.

With the support of volunteers, donors and our wider community, we hope to grow into a charity that continues serving others for generations to come.

Join Our Journey

Tsechen Tara Trust exists because we believe the world needs more compassion.

Not only in words, but in action.

Together, we can support vulnerable people, strengthen communities, preserve Buddhist wisdom, improve mental wellbeing and help create a future where kindness becomes part of everyday life.

This is why we created Tsechen Tara Trust.

And this is only the beginning.
