Our Dream of Building a Buddhist Retreat Village

Creating a place of compassion, peace and hope for generations to come.

Imagine a place where the noise of everyday life fades into birdsong. A place where people from every walk of life can step away from stress, reconnect with themselves and discover inner peace.

That is the dream behind Tsechen Tara Trust.

Our vision extends far beyond creating another meditation centre. We dream of building a Buddhist Retreat Village that becomes a sanctuary for compassion, wellbeing, education and community—a place where Buddhism meets modern life and where everyone, regardless of their beliefs, feels welcome.

A Vision Inspired by Compassion

The Tibetan word Tsechen means Great Compassion.

Tara, known throughout Tibetan Buddhism as the Mother of all Buddhas, is revered for her swift compassionate action and her commitment to helping all beings overcome suffering.

These two ideals form the heart of everything we hope to achieve.

Our retreat village will be built on three simple values:

  • Compassion
  • Hope
  • Action

These values will guide every decision we make, every person we help and every project we undertake.

A Place Open to Everyone

Although our roots are in Tibetan Buddhism, our retreat village will not be exclusively for Buddhists.

Whether you are looking for silence, meditation, personal growth, spiritual learning or simply somewhere peaceful to spend the day, our doors will be open.

We want to create a place where:

  • Families can enjoy beautiful gardens.
  • Individuals struggling with anxiety can find calm.
  • People experiencing loneliness can build genuine friendships.
  • Buddhists can deepen their practice.
  • Beginners can discover meditation for the first time.
  • Schools and organisations can learn practical mindfulness and compassion.

No matter your background, beliefs or experience, you will be welcome.

Our Dream Buddhist Temple

At the heart of the retreat village will stand a beautiful Buddhist temple.

The temple will provide a sacred space for:

  • Daily meditation
  • Traditional Buddhist prayers
  • Dharma teachings
  • Retreats
  • Empowerments
  • Ceremonies
  • Festivals

It will become a place where people can reconnect with what truly matters in life—kindness, wisdom and compassion.

Meditation Retreats for Modern Life

Many people today live with overwhelming stress, anxiety and constant distraction.

We believe meditation has never been more important.

Our long-term vision includes offering regular:

  • Meditation retreats
  • Weekend mindfulness retreats
  • Silent retreats
  • Compassion meditation courses
  • Beginner meditation programmes
  • Buddhist study retreats
  • Family meditation days

These retreats will provide practical tools that people can continue using long after they return home.

Beautiful Gardens for Reflection

Nature has an incredible ability to calm the mind.

Our retreat village will include peaceful landscaped gardens with quiet walking paths designed for reflection and mindfulness.

Visitors will be able to:

  • Sit beside tranquil water features.
  • Enjoy Himalayan-inspired planting.
  • Walk meditation trails.
  • Read beneath trees.
  • Spend time in silence.
  • Experience mindful outdoor spaces.

The gardens themselves will become part of the retreat experience.

A Conference and Teaching Centre

Compassion grows when people come together.

We hope to build a modern conference and teaching centre capable of welcoming hundreds of visitors for:

  • Buddhist teachings
  • Meditation conferences
  • Charity events
  • Educational workshops
  • Guest speakers
  • Community gatherings
  • Wellness events

This space will allow teachers from around the world to share their wisdom while helping fund the charitable work of Tsechen Tara Trust.

A Café and Restaurant Built Around Community

One of the most meaningful parts of any community is sharing food together.

Our dream includes a welcoming café and restaurant serving delicious vegetarian and vegan meals inspired by Himalayan and international cuisine.

But this space will be about far more than food.

It will become somewhere people can:

  • Meet new friends.
  • Read a book in peaceful surroundings.
  • Continue conversations after meditation.
  • Enjoy community events.
  • Feel less alone.

Loneliness is one of today’s greatest hidden struggles, and we want our retreat village to become somewhere people genuinely belong.

Supporting Mental Health Through Meditation

Mental wellbeing will always remain one of our priorities.

Alongside traditional Buddhist teachings, we hope to provide free and low-cost meditation sessions designed to help people:

  • Reduce anxiety
  • Manage stress
  • Develop emotional resilience
  • Improve concentration
  • Cultivate compassion
  • Find greater inner peace

Meditation has transformed countless lives for over 2,500 years, and we believe these timeless practices remain just as relevant today.

Preserving Tibetan Buddhist Culture

Our retreat village will also help preserve the rich cultural heritage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Future plans include opportunities to experience:

  • Tibetan art
  • Thangka painting
  • Prayer ceremonies
  • Traditional chanting
  • Buddhist philosophy
  • Tibetan language
  • Cultural celebrations

By sharing these traditions, we hope to keep this precious heritage alive for future generations.

Funding Compassion Around the World

The retreat village is only one part of our larger vision.

As Tsechen Tara Trust grows, we aim to support charitable projects both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

Our long-term ambitions include helping to fund:

  • Schools in remote Himalayan communities.
  • Medical centres.
  • Community infrastructure.
  • Care for elderly people.
  • Activities for children with disabilities.
  • Mental health initiatives.
  • Humanitarian projects where support is most needed.

We believe compassion begins at home but should never stop at our own borders.

A Place That Gives Back

The retreat village itself will help sustain our charitable work.

Income generated through retreats, events, conferences, accommodation, the café and restaurant will help fund projects supporting people in need.

Every visit, every retreat and every cup of coffee will become another opportunity to make a positive difference in someone’s life.

A Dream That Will Take Many Years

We know that projects like this are not built overnight.

Our journey will begin by hiring conference venues, offering meditation events and building a strong community.

As support grows, we hope to establish a permanent home before one day creating the retreat village we envision today.

Every donation, every volunteer and every supporter helps bring that dream a little closer.

Join Us on the Journey

The vision of Tsechen Tara Trust is ambitious because the need for compassion has never been greater.

Together we can build far more than beautiful buildings.

We can create a place where people discover hope, find friendship, deepen their understanding, support one another and help transform lives both locally and around the world.

This is our dream.

And with your support, one day it can become a reality.
